Book your trip to Churchill!

    Aurora Tours!

The goal for these tours is to give you the best opportunity at seeing the aurora borealis.  You will also get time with award winning Justin Anderson who will help you when it comes to photographing the night sky and editing your images. We will spend time throughout the day going through your photos and learning how to edit efficiently.

While we will be taking photos of the group & Aurora ourselves, we are here to help you get the photos of your dreams. You are encouraged to ask questions throughout the entire trip.

    Dates:

We have opened 2 different tour dates during the 2023 Aurora season. These dates coincide with the new moon which is the best time to view Aurora. If you are interested in staying for more than one week please let us know. A discount may be available.

    March 13-18, 2023 - Average Temperature = -24°C

    March 20-25, 2023 - Average Temperature = -21°C

*Train arrives in Churchill on the Tuesday morning and leaves on Saturday evening.*

    Accommodations:

Accommodations are provided as part of your package by a local 5 star rated bed and breakfast  called Parks Place, located in Churchill. As part of your package you will have your own locking bedroom, access to the whole house, shared full kitchen among the group, free wifi, laundry, shower/soaker tub, etc.  The house is within walking distance to the grocery store and most shops.

    Food:

Food is not covered with the accommodations. We will need to pack/purchase our own food. Food can be purchased in Churchill, however it can be more expensive (+20% usually). For this reason we recommend packing some food/snacks.  Previous groups have successfully worked together to make a meal plan.

    Travel:

We will be traveling to Churchill on the VIA Rail train which starts at Winnipeg and will pass through Thompson. You have the choice to start your trip in Winnipeg or any stop along the way to Thompson.  At the time of booking you will be instructed on how to book your train tickets.  Train tickets are not included in your package, however they can be as low as $150 round trip from Thompson.

We recommend driving to Thompson then catching the train from there to cut the travel time in half.  If you have any questions we are happy to walk you through the VIA Rail website and process. We encourage our guests to carpool to Thompson.

    Weather:

This is Northern Manitoba so it will be cold! Be prepared to be outside in the cold for each night. We will have at least one vehicle running at all times (with lights off) to warm up in. Warm up shacks will be available at select locations.

    Price: $2300/person (plus GST)

To book please click on the link at the top of the page.

*Aurora viewing is subject to weather conditions and safety considerations.

    Frequently asked questions

If you have any other questions please ask me on my Instagram, Facebook, or through the 'Contact me' tab.

No! Almost all camera's made in the last few years are good enough to photograph the aurora.  The best camera is the one accessible to you.

Yes! We are going to be available to help you at every step of the way. Our goal is get you the best northern lights experience. Before the group leaves we will ensure you have the correct settings to photograph the Aurora. There will be many opportunities to ask questions throughout the day. We will work together to make sure you understand how your camera works before we get to our location.

Pillow, blanket, entertainment (it is a 16 hour ride one way minimum), snacks, a mask, an eye mask, ear plugs just to name a few things. Once your spot is booked we will have an official list for your group.

At the house in town we will have high speed internet, likely faster than your house internet! At night we do have a cell booster in the vehicle for emergencies. It is best to anticipate no service at night.

Churchill is in fact dangerous due to Polar Bears, Wolves and Moose (in that order). Our tours will have at minimum two professional guides that are armed. We will have a perimeter set up at night for our crew to adventure for their photos.  Your safety is our first priority.  We will have dogs available some nights as well.

This tour is strictly for the Aurora Borealis.  During the day we will sleep in (as we are likely going to be out late) then we will go over editing tips with Justin Anderson, Camera tips, and just hanging out with the group.  We can direct you towards companies that can take you out dog sledding or daytime tours. During this time the chances to see bears are minimal as they are out on the Bay.

It is the Canadian Tundra.. It'll be cold! You will want a warm parka and lots of layers. I will be expecting -50 degrees C with the windchill. You will want handwarmers and will want to have every part of your body covered.  I have a heated vest/jacket and it is crucial when chasing aurora in Churchill.

Churchill has a fully stocked grocery store (with Alcohol if you wish to buy some). You can buy almost anything you could in your normal grocery store. Just expect it to be more expensive.

You should have some experience with your camera prior to coming up to Churchill.  This will give you the best chance at getting amazing photos.  Keep in mind our group leader and guide will be working on keeping the area safe and might not be able to get to you immediately. Especially when the aurora is going nuts. So we want you to have some experience with your camera.

As a group leader I will be available at the start of the night to help get your settings right then throughout the night I will be available intermittently giving tips and tricks while keeping the area safe. Ultimately the goal is to give you the best photography vacation of your life.

We are anticipating 5-6 tour guests then 2-3 tour guides.
